Mark, check ignition timing, probably should be 10 degrees with the
"spout" disconected, the spout is spark out, a wire, usualy near the
distributor, some are an inline connector, some have a gray plastic
shunt that you pull, brings it down to base timing. The 5 volts is on
the egr sensor, not the solenoid, it's on top of the egr valve. Three
wires, one should be 5 volts, one ground, the other is signal return, I
believe .5 volts on this one, some of the early ones were 1 volt. If the
voltage is high, you can grind a little off of the punger to lower it,
if it's low I squeeze the very tip of the plunger in the vise to make it
longer. The EGR valves build up carbon on the seat, lifting it and
showing high voltage when it should be seeing closed voltage, it will
set a code, usually won't affect running much. Map sensors are critical
on these, you need a hertz meter to check it, I have one on my Fluke,
it's been a long time since I checked one, seems like 159 to 160 here,
were just a few feet above sea level, there are charts that will give
the specs for the baro reading. Be sure the vacuum hose ot it is open,
if it's colapsed or clogged it will stumble because the sensor isn't
reading vacuum drop quick enough, if you can find a sensor it's easy
enough to just try one. Fuel pressure, guessing 34 psi on this one, I
can look it up tomorrow. Try unplugging the O2 sensor, see if ti runs
better that way. If I think of anything else I will let you know.
