[SEL] Help Needed

No Mike as there's no proof that the "Nancy" who lived in NC was the
same Nancy that gave birth to Abe, other than people saying "we think it
was her". None of the timelines work out as Thomas and Nancy were
married in Springfield, KY in 1806. The marriage license is proof, the
minister wrote of the marriage as well as several others that were in
attendance. So, if Nancy already had Abe in 1806, he would be older
than Sarah. Sarah refers to herself as "Abe's older sister" and at the
school they attended here in LaRue County there is the writings from a
lady in the 1860's (she being in her 70's then) who wrote of attending
the school with Sarah and her "little brother Abe". This would also
mean that Abe would have had to be born prior to 1806 when Thomas and
Nancy married. So instead of Abe being 8 when they left KY, he would
have been about 12 or possibly older.

I did an interview with a newspaper out of NC a few weeks ago regarding
this very thing. There are a LOT of problems with the Bostic claim.
Supposedly, Tom Lincoln was working in the woods and at a sawmill in NC
when Enloe convinced him to marry Nancy and head to KY. The problem is
Tom was a surveyor, carpenter, and worked for the county here in KY and
records show (from the county for payments to him, receipts for work he
did, etc.) he was here in KY, not NC during this time period. Bostic
has an interesting story, although I agree with you about congnitive
memory as most of the info is gathered from folks in their 80's plus
speaking of when they were a few years old (hey, come to think of it, I
think when I was 4 dad told me something about him and Marilyn
Monroe..... I guess it makes it fact!).

I think the best thing to do would be DNA tests. Dig up Enloe or find
one of his surviving decendents and do the DNA match against some of
Lincoln's DNA (we have some of his hair so we could gather it).

"Kentucky Land of Abe"! :-)
