Ok Gang once again I need help on what would seemingly be a simple problem and it would probably be a simple problem for anyone but me. The old original Sherwood Oiler on the my Stover engine was very grungy, the glasses were glazed over with old harden oil, and it from all appearances it was plugged up.

I dis-assembled the oiler completely even removing the long center stem. The center stem was extremely hard to remove and once I got it out it appeared to have some old hard packing at the bottom of the stem that was about 1/4" in width. This old packing just fell apart. I made some new packing out of Teflon and tried to get it about the same width. I made new cork gaskets for the glasses and out it all back together. Now I cannot seem to get the oiler to shut off, it drips continuously even when I have the top pivot folded over to let the stem relax and supposedly seal off.

Here is a picture of the oiler:

Has anyone ever tore down one of these old Sherwood Oilers? Does anyone have an exploded diagram of one? I see a Number 1 stamped on the bottom of the oiler nut so I assume it is a #1 Sherwood Oiler. Any help that anyone can give this simpleton would be appreciated.

Paul
