[SEL] Belt power question

Bill,

I can't answer your horse power question directly, but here's one from
experience.  Several years ago we rigged up a 12 volt alternator to be run
off the flywheel of an 1 1/2 HP IHC M engine.  We used an old V belt from
the flywheel to the alternator.  We rigged up an electric line with sockets
for 12 volt 100 watt bulbs.  It pulled one bulb fine, the second made a
noticable load and the third bulb about killed the engine.  Figure from
there.  The belt never slipped that we could tell.
