Andy,
Sandblast and Bondo. Sounds like you'll be buying it by the gallon! Buy 
yourself a body file (looks like a wood rasp) to cut the glazed surface 
of the Bondo to keep you from clogging up the sandpaper. Then rough it 
with a block and 40 grit, then 100 grit as you are getting close to the 
sheetmetal. You can do a final sanding with 220 as you break thru to the 
steel. Prime with a 2 part primer surfacer, sand, prime, etc. until you 
are happy with the finish. Your final sanding should be with 320 grit 
before you put your high gloss finish.
I agree Oliver sheet metal is beautiful, especially the orchard tractors.

P.S. You might even consider buying a DA sander.
