Hi Rick, The 2 holes through the gas tank are for mounting it. I have an 8hp IHC Famous, and 2 threaded rods go through the tank, and bolt through 2 pieces of wood under the tank, this is the original way the tank was supported The wood is looks like a piece of 1 X 6. Good luck, Dwight, Matoaca, VA.
