[SEL] Hercules XK revisited

Tom,
On my 6HP flywheels there are the 3 holes about 3" in diameter. Very 
near the split hub is another smaller hole about an 1 1/2 in diameter 
that serves the same purpose you mention for the expansion/contraction.
What HP are you looking at? You can see the smaller holes in this picture:
