They should consider borrowing a trailer and copying it.  Not only will you 
get a lesson on how to build something they will get to do some reverse 
engineering.  The class can take the measurements and make inprovements or 
refinements to the original manufacturers design.  Reverse engineer will be 
a good skill to have on the farm.  When a replacement part has to be made 
there won't be plans available.
