Michael,
As Tommy said, somethings are not as they appear,
I have the serial #ers of the 18 hp Type G Olds that are in Keith K. July
2004 calender, Contrary to your "gas engine works" theroy. The red one has
a serial # of 7354 and the tag says, Olds Gas Engine Works, I do believe
this to be a 1900 engine. The other 18 hp Olds type G sitting right beside
it has a "Gas Power Co." tag. serial c-295, with a patent date of
8-29-1905.
My 18 hp type G has the gas engine works tag and has a serial # of 7813. I
also have the serial # from a 12 hp Gearless, its 6119, and has the "Olds
Gas Motor Works" tag. this is a heavy cast tag. the other 3 are etched
tags,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
The main difference in the 18hp type G's are the fuel pump on the 7354 and
7813 engines go through the base to the fuel pump and need a bearing
replaced , if it were used alot, the later "gas power " one with the 1905
patent, has a bent arm going on the outside of the base instead of through
it, as well as the shoe type gov. system. the others have the vert. flyballs
or the shoe. gov.
Hope this clears up the mud, but I dont see how it can!!!!!!!!!!!!!
