Thankyou all for the comments on the costs of the rally.
Taking these into account, I shall draft a message to the organisers.
On view shortly.

To Adam Cotrill.
I am trying to get across to the NHMA and
the club who are running the rally that, If the prices they are charging are
too high, then they wont have the attendance.
If there is discontent, this will be a dampener on the event.
The ongoing result will be that there will be less urge to attend the next
one. Thus things decline.
There ARE more ways of running an event than to overcharge the exhibitors
After all, we are the ones who,at our own expense, bring
together a collection of rare machinery in one place that is called an
engine show. Without our efforts there is no show.
Under the 'leadership' of the NHMA, the shows have been overpriced,
less than well organised, and as such, not as enjoyable as they could have
been.
As to your comment about the rise in membership, these are figures on paper.
Sure clubs have a rise in members but, how many of them are active?
Our club has around 150 members, but maybe 20 who have actually been seen
at a meeting or event.
If you have been going to shows for the last 18 years as I have, you will
note that a lot of shows
have disappeared or shrunk drastically in stature. Others have prospered.
Ask yourself why this is so.
When all is said and done, it is due to the enjoyment/cost ratio that the
exhibitors get fron the event.
So, until the NHMA change, there will not be much left when the older engine
men have passed on. Their whole aim seems to be to keep everyone out, not
encourage new blood.
I know they are volunteers but that still does not make them right or
infallable.
At least my opening this subject has brought out in the open, what a cross
section are thinking. It would be good if less 'lurked' on these sorts of
matters and spoke out so the message gets across.
