I have replaced the butterfly on a few engines and my method is to turn a
bit of brass to the dia of the bore and then cut off the plate at an angle
of about 10 to 15 degrees. I do this with the mill but if you are careful,
it can be done with a hacksaw, power or hand.
This method gives a perfect fit to the carb bore and I have never had any
further troubles with over revving at idle.
Oh, one other thing, I fix the slop of the pivot shaft before I make the new
plate as this is usually fixes the problem.
