[SEL] Shingle Mill

Luke,

Our club has a shingle mill. We use mainly cedar, but we also use catalpa
and have cut a few cypress. Our shingle miller, who is our local barber,
has a sign up in his shop for years asking for cedar and some shows up once
in a while. We were lucky that a strong wind came through an area east of
us. Of all places, it hit hard at Cedar Farms. Having good connections
with the owner we got the remains of several large cedar trees that were
blown down.

We use 18" long pieces to cut. You can start with any odd shape and square
three sides with the mill and then start making shingles. Half is shingles
and half is sawdust. We made a bundling device and a saw to trim rough
edges. We use some of the shigles in our club buildings and sell some here
and there.
