[SEL] IHC LB Valves

Has anyone installed replacement valves in a IHC LB using non  standard 
parts?  The valves are 3 5/8" long, with a stem diameter of  5/16th, one valve head 
is 1¼" in diameter, and the other is 1 3/16" in  diameter.  The original 
valves use a pin to retain the spring  assembly.  There has some discussion in the 
past about using non original  valves by reworking newer valves.  Any 
suggestions on what valves to  use?  If using a non original valve, how is the pin 
hole drilled in  the stem?
