Hi Jeff

Yes the keeper will work but it shouldn't be a problem to put the whole mag
in the charger.

Subject: [SEL] No spark in the JD magneto

Thanks to all for your responses regarding my John Deere . I was hoping
for a simple cure but I guess right from the get go I knew I would have
to have the mag recharged. BTW, I have timed the mag to the impulse
point using the pin at the back of the mag. I now have to find someone
around my neck of the woods who can recharge the mag magnet in situ
rather than off the mag itself. I have seen on the Net where someone
charged a Webster magnet off the mag itself and put a keeper bar in
place on the side of the magnet while the magnet was placed down into
its place on the actual mag. The keeper bar was slid up while the magnet
was pushed home. Anyone tried that with the JD mag. If Vic is listening
in to this thread, please send me an email or phone if you are still in
the country. I'll try to call sometime this week regardless to see if
you have charged a JD before. Jeff Allen
