Sorry for my bad wording, Dave:

The vehicle can weigh up to 2.8tons, but not if you want to pull the
maximum trailer weight of 3.5 tons.

2.4 tons vehicle weight plus 3..5tons trailer weight = 5.9 tons gross
train weight is the maximum allowed.
