The problem you describe is a common problem. There is not a recall on it. Go to www.obd2.com to get recalls.

The most common transmission in the 1500 Avi is the 4L60 but a 4180E was available in a beefed up version. Both have the 5.3 engine. According to the young guy I'm helping (Lincoln Tech trained) the differential is a bear to get out but the repair is easy. You may need a special tool though. A lot of stuff has to be removed to get the diff out.

If you or anyone wants information on this or any vehicle he will gladly answer your questions. He can be emailed at hotrodjeff19 at yahoo.com. If you need to call him request his number. He keeps my 04 Avi, 01 Monte, 02 Grand Am, and 94 Firebird all running. Also works on the Cub Cadet, Speedex, and other lawn type engines for me. He is not allowed to touch the 07 Honda Goldwing though.

It is amazing he can't understand how our old engines work. Sucking fuel is a concept foreign to him. I'm working on that though. Give him a vehicle with a computer and he knows it. He hears a car going down the street and tells me which engine it has. All I know is it runs.
