Hi John,
          That's not a good comparison. Put a "drop" of gas or pretty much 
any "petro chemical" product "styrofoam" and the result will be the same. 
"Styrofoam" (expanded polystyrene - pst) is very unstable and pretty much 
any solvent will destroy it.
         One of it's uses is when casting concrete that needs a "cavity". 
The "cavity" is made by inserting a "styrofoam" block of the correct shape 
- once the concrete has dried all that needs to be done is to throw some 
petrol (gas) onto the styrene and it dissolves.
         Just my cents worth.
