OK here is an OLD trick you can try. Head down to the parts store and 
buy a plug in circuit breaker or three. one rated the same as the fuse 
and one rated for half. If they have a short finder kit that has the 
center reading meter but it, they come in really handy. BUT if you have 
a simple compass you can still run the trace. When it shorts and blows 
the fuse plug in a breaker. Then follow the compass up the wire harness. 
It will swing back/forth as the breaker opens/closes. When it stops your 
at the short. That is where the short finder meter excels, it just moves 
   with the current.

The meter is the special item. The tube with the clips is a 20 amp plug 
in breaker in a plastic tube. You can sub in other breakers as needed.
