I think you have a good handle on it mate.

No spit and polish and caste iron frills. Just plain and 
functional in the main. See vertical Rosebery engines as an 
example and pumps and grinding wheel stands etc. Plain Janes 
you could call most of them.

I took a 3HP vertical Rosebery out of a paddock and had it 
going in about 3 weeks. It had been there for about 40 years. 
That's robust.
