Dickie,
    You bring up a good point.  If anyone needs a whiskey barrel, I 
think I can help them out.  We make a lot of that stuff around here 
(legally too!).  There is a cooperage near me that makes new ones or I 
can get those that have aged for 8 years or so full of whiskey.  The 
ones that have been aged have been charred on the inside but the new 
ones wouldn't be.  I got a used one a few years ago for an engine 
project and sandblasted the interior to remove as much of the char as 
possible.  I think the new barrels run about $200.  The used ones are 
around $25 I think (sorry, they're empty).
