In the old engine world anything is possible! However, on my 8HP this 
pad is clearly for a hot tube. Mine has never been drilled or tapped for 
the hot tube mounting. Only the front and back tapped holes would be 
possible. There is no place on the side for bolts as shown in the Oz photo.

You questioned the existence of both hot tube and Webster. If the engine 
was shipped initially with HT, it is reasonable to assume someone 
upgraded it to electric ignition later.  Tommy T mentioned yesterday 
that there was reservation in the early days to electric ignition, and 
that IHC provided the hot tube ignition as an option to settle doubters.

This has got me wondering. Has anyone seen a Famous/Titan style engine 
with a hot tube boss with NO ignitor provision boss on the cylinder 
casting? That would be neat!
