Pete, in some of the early editions of TOMMS there were some excellant
articles by a bloke named Mc Kay from South Africa.Included were ways to
free stuck pistons . They were great and covered all the different problems
you could encounter. I never had these copies of TOMMs but they were amongst
the very early ones,I am sure Elenore or Lance may be able to help you.
>From my own experience I would be very careful re the grease gun method ,the
hydraulic forces set up can do a lot of damage. I just freed a Cooper piston
.I bolted a piece of channel across the top using the head studs . A three
quarter NF screwed long bolt bearing down on a 6 mm plate just under the
diam of your piston.Plenty of lubrication [I used Bio diesel ] and a turn
every day, a tap with a hammer on the bolt head and it was free in a couple
of days .Probably could have been done quicker but I had plenty of time.I
must say that this piston was really stuck ,there was no leak past the
piston and when I did get it out you could see where it had locked up .
Brock and Edd's Idea is good also , I have a pic of using it on a five inch
piston removal.
Good luck ....go easy on the grease gun if you go down that road!
