If your friend is not averse to building a coil winder, the info is 
available in Bob Shore's book, Ignition Coils and Magnetos in Miniature.  It 
contains drawings for a coil winder.
Bob passed away a couple of years ago, but I think his wife is still selling 
his plans, kits, etc.
