Hi Paul;
  I owned a '93 (might have been a '91) Big Block 454, throttle body 
injected, in a motorhome and was happy with it.  Automatic transmission 
responded well in the Rockies.  I have read tho that exh. manifolds have 
been known to crack...hopefully they got that prob fixed..to my knowledge, 
mine never did.
  You're talking crewcab and if it's a long box, well that's a pretty long 
truck for getting around town, i.e. parking lots, tight turns and such.
  I also concur..drivetrain should be fine. If automatic..smell the tranny 
fluid, you'll be able to tell if it's burnt.
  Gas mileage, I'd say not to expect any more than 15...probably less.

  2wd or 4wd....2wd is fine on pavement.  Hauling iron to shows..should be 
great..everyday get around town rig..naw
