He was nothing special.......there are thousands of people in this country
that risk their lives every day in their normal days work .
Just think about the professional Abalone divers who work in Great White
Shark infested waters in the Southern Ocean. Sky Divers,Policemen ,Fire men
,Big Wave Surfers ,Human Cannonballs etc etc ............
TV can turn Bullshit into a cult and a quid so easily....a state funeral is
taking it a bit too far!
By the way ...there is another Crocodile Man ,Malcolm Douglas ,not quite the
show man as was the late Mr Irwin .

Hey Pete,

Keep taking the "Brave and courageous" pills mate ....

(They're working! LOL!!!!)

Seriously,

I was never a huge fan of the man (along with others ....an example ..... )

Yep Jim I agree with you, I didnt like the bloke myself, but he was a huge
Oz icon that will be missed terribly. I feel so sad for his family......But
as ya said Tone said it all. The tall poppy syndrome is alive and well.

  FYI .....

  http://www.news.com.au/comments/0,23600,20349888-421,00.html

As we Aussies say ..... You either loved or hated him.

Personally, I found him to be too loud and abrasive for my tastes ......
but he certainly got his message across, and for that I admire and respect
him.

The world certainly did .... see the above comments .....

I think TJ summed up my sentiments to a Tee .... far better than I could
...... and I quote ....

"Suddenly Steve is being lauded as a great Australian..............the
intellectuals lampooned him, the feminists attacked him over his child
raising techniques, the greenies ranted at his treatment of the environment
and the animal rights mob were constantly attacking him.....Steve Irwin made
it, not here in Australia, but like many great musicians , entertainers and
sportspeople he had to go overeas
to get anywhere....once he succeeded he was another tall poppy for the
politically correct to try to chop down...
Now he is dead thats no fun anymore so we'll make him one of our
heros......."

I enjoyed watching Steve Irwins show ....I was often critised for my bad
taste..........to me he seemed a guy who was passionate about what he did,
seemed to love his family and was an alright decent bloke....I feel sad that
he has died............I hope his death doesnt become a circus."

You may not have known what went on over here.

Best wishes to both you and Julio ..... and show him the comments ......
to let him know he is not alone.

Been crying for hours over his to the point I could not post it. To
Americans he was an Aussie icon. To kids, big and little alike , he was a
teacher and a friend through the lessons he gave. RIP to a kind and gentle
man who died doing what he loved most.

News just to hand is Steve Irwin has died from a stingray barb While
filming off the Cairns coast. He was stung directly in the heart
