[SEL] 4 horse mogul

A good start is to put an indicator in the chuck on the headstock and then
swing it around the inside of the taper on the tailstock. If the tailstock
ram is loose you will have to take it apart, find out way and fix it and ten
proceed as above. Most tailstocks can be adjusted back and forth so this is
pretty straight forward. You will have to wing it on up and down since most
lathes do not have a vertical adjustment. If you can get everything real
close you could touch it up by re-reaming the tailstock but this would have
to be done with great care as it has already been reamed to size and
removing too much will completely screw things up.

expert, I've got a question for
you about tweaking a lathe in. Once I have the bed level all directions
with a precision level, and if I still experience taper when using the
tail stock, what is the procedure for dialing in the tailstock? Anyway
of telling which side of center I may be on before making adjustments to
the tailstock?
