It looks like your engine has a re-engineered ignition system very similar
to one I have. In a recent discussion I bookmarked the following page that
has some good breakdown pictures of how the governor system should be. I
plan to re-re-engineer mine someday too. Maybe they will be of some help in
your project. http://www.boydhouse.com/hitandmiss/index.html
Ed,
I have been corresponding with Gearld on his Fairbanks Morse engine as I
also have the same type engine with a magneto. I am glad to see that others
have found Darryl's web site documenting his battery ignition engine.
You mentioned that you would like to re-engineer your engine. Take a look
at the Darryl's picture of the Fairbanks Morse crankshaft and cam gears. You
will that these gear teeth are cut at an angle. Thus, the cam from this is
not inchangeable with magneto model. The cam action of the battery model is
different from the magneto type. There is a contact on the exhaust activation
mechanism to trigger the battery ignition which is controlled by cam action.
Have you participated in the SmokStak chat room on engines? If you have
not, I suggest it is good idea to do so. <

Not too many people are on during the day. You will find them mostly at
night.
If there is any information you need for your engine, I will try to help.
