Bingo Reg, you hit the nail on the head! We can only vote by our
participation (or not) in these shows. Once a show transitions from a
mentality of 'not for profit' to 'for profit', the culture of that shows
fails to inspire me to attend again. Take Coolsprings for example. No
doubt one of the finest, if not _the_ finest gas engine show on the
planet. No charge for exhibiting, no charge for camping. What a great
experience Coolsprings is!
On the other end of the spectrum are shows like Denton (NC) and now
Arden (NC). Unfortunately due to their money greedy ways they will not
find me exhibiting there again. I AM tempted to make my point by
borrowing a Maytag and setting up at Arden with a LARGE sign that reads
something like:
"Why didn't I bring my side shaft Abenaque, or my Stickney, or my Famous???
Because this club, which has over $100,000 in the bank, has decided to
charge
exhibitors to display engines/reserve slots. Nope, I won't bring another
nice
engine in support of this show until this fee is revoked. Sorry guys the
Maytag
is all you get."

Probably won't affect a damned thing in a club that has a 'tractors
only' mentality, but a least I will have made my point loud and clear.

P.S. At our Cotton Ginning Days show, we (the board of directors) and
other members, pay for all the show costs out of our pockets so that
others may enjoy our show free of charge. We even serve a free dinner on
Saturday night for exhibitors.
