Wow Patrick, I never thought of that.  Such a failure would
render my "Last-ditch contingency plan" ineffective.  

The old plan involved stopping the fuel valve by removing
the cam follower.  Obviously, this would not help in the
event of a failure like you describe.  The revised plan is
to manually hold open the intake.
