[SEL] Cushman Cub / Massey Harris R20 question

Hi Everyone,
         Does anyone know if the serial number of these engines is stamped 
somewhere on the engine? A friend has one with a missing spec plate. plate. 
Also, is there a way of telling if it was a Cushman or MH  -  I have a very 
rusted one with no paint or spec plate ?
