Hi Tom,
I was lazy and didn't bother to confirm what I thought I rememebered. There's a
little more to it than I previously indicated.
In the 12th edition, they talk about the various finishes for bolts and nuts.
"Unfinished" means not machined or treated on any surface except the threads.
"Semi-finished" means a circular bearing surface or "washer face" is formed by
chamfering the edges.
"Finished" is the same as "semi-finished" except that surfaces other than the
bearing surface are treated to create a desired appearance.
"Washer face" is defined as a circular boss produced on a bearing surface of a
bolt or a nut to relieve the corners.
