Hi Curt,
I'm no expert but I can relate to my own Witte.
(We were thinking about
adding a conduit locking ring. )
You could do that - But I would add, maybe some teflon tape instead.
The one on my Witte is loose enough to "seep" fuel when flooded but it
diesn't "walk" or seem to bother the trottle rod any.
(There is a little cup just in front of the throttle plate. Is this for
priming the engine?)
I imagine you are talking about the gasoline resovour on the mixer.
This is designed to run the engine long enough on gasoline to get it hot
enough to
switch over to kerosene from the fuel tank.
If you are just running Gasoline, you can close the needle valve to this
resovour
and pump right out of the fuel tank via the rear needle valve.
(There is a VERY stiff spring behind this plate.)
Yes - it should be sort of a weak spring. This allows enough draw on the
intake
stroke to siphon fuel into the mixer. (Sort of like a choke).
This makes that "Phutt - Phutt - Phutt" sound, when running, that Witte
is noted for.
Check & see if Hit & Miss or Starbolt has this spring.
Hope this helps.
