Another possibility is to braze, clean, then spread a thin layer of JB Weld 
and wait a short while.  Before it hardens, but after it is no longer sticky, 
use a textured pad like a 3M pad and push it into the JB Weld, leaving a rough, 
cast iron like, finish.  After paint, you should have the appearance you want.
