[SEL] Showing engines or not, What about insurance?

Hi Luke,
I feel the same way you do about the insurance issue. (Except where you
make the statement about being able to grab someone by the shirt collar
and tell them to stay back.)

I've gone to several shows that, on their flyer, say "Proof of Insurance
Required" and no one has ever asked for proof of insurance. I have
insurance through EDGE&TA for what it's worth. I run my junk and "try"
to keep an eye on everything, and everyone, at once. The people that
scare me most are the ones that want to enter your area and bull crap
while standing too close to a piece of running equipment. They're
clothes getting caught is my main concern.

I don't carry ropes & stanchions but, I made some up for a couple shows.
Mostly because I want to reserve a spot for myself or a friend but also
to keep people at bay. Some shows put up ropes. Some don't.

But the talk of insurance has stopped me from taking some equipment to a
few shows. After the Medina, OH explosion my main show, Tri-State
Historical Steam, has discontinued showing because insurance prices got
too high and the coverage was minimal. We tried incorporating with a
local fair but they wouldn't insure "steam", so that idea was scraped and
the organization folded.

More than anything else I believe we need to get the Lawyers & Judges to
come back down to earth and quit making people rich by their own
stupidity.

Yes, you can run your junk at home but, I don't think there's a lot of
fun in that. Without people to watch and ask questions and bull crap
with and, buy & sell a few small things, not to mention the comradery of
it all, there's not much fun in holding a "one man show" in your back
yard.

So - - - Run what ya brung - - - Have a good time - - - Use your head and
hope no one gets hurt.

Joe "Pip" Betz said that.
