There has been a lot of discussion over the years in the British model 
engineering "bible", "The Model Engineer" regarding parting-off using 
rear toolposts, and there have been many "in-depth" analyses of the 
reasons for its seemingly enhanced performance, quite apart from the 
convenience and time-saving factor.

The consensus is that even the sceptics who have tried it have been 
convinced of its effectiveness, for whatever reason.

It might be the "bumble-bee aerodynamics" factor
