Subject: [SEL] Making valves

I am working on a Cooper/Stover KA at present. I pulled out the exhaust
valve tonight and found it almost completely eroded through the stem near
the valve head. I thought I might machine a new one up. What steel should I
use and what is the best way to go about it? I thought that it would be easy
to machine the whole valve out of a single piece but I know some weld the
head onto a stem. Its only a small valve. 5/16 stem,1.4 inch head and around
4.3 over all
