Looking at the "100 years of Fairbanks Morse" book, your engine looks like 
the "Fairbanks Morse Vertical Engine" sold from around 1898 thru 1908, but that 
is only a guess.  I would be of the opinion that many, many  Maytags would be 
a great trade.
