Just finished assemblying my junker Model 72 Maytag. The alumimum gas tank
was modified to a base mount. This was accomplished by bolting a ¼" x 6" - 12"
iron plate to bottom of the gas tank. The orignal bolt holes (that held the
tank to the base) were drilled through and 5/16" bolts (5) were used to
fasten the iron plate to the tank. Next, two pieces of 3/8" x 2" - 10" iron were
welded to ends of the plate. These two pieces were drilled for the base mount.
The engine base is fasten to the top of the gas tank and held by the same
bolts that is used to hold the tank. The gas tank is sandwiched between the
iron plate and engine base.

After the assembly was completed, the engine was started using a belt and an
electric motor. The engine fired up with no apparent problems. Eventually,
this engine will have a pull rope starter.
