Luke,
Have always enjoyed snakes and had quite a few while growing up. All the
neighbors call me when they have a snake in the yard or house. I gather
them up and release them to the safety of the woods.
Markings like the one you pictured would scare a southerner good,
immediately fearing copperhead.
I did a search on snakes in your are and here is the link.
http://www.geocities.com/Petsburgh/Reserve/7416/mi.html or
http://search.netscape.com/ns/boomframe.jsp?query=snakes+of+michigan&page=1&offset=2&result_url=redir%3Fsrc%3Dwebsearch%26requestId%3D14fd0405d9f2c20d%26clickedItemRank%3D1%26userQuery%3Dsnakes%2Bof%2Bmichigan%26clickedItemURN%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.geocities.com%252FPetsburgh%252FReserve%252F7416%252Fmi.html%26invocationType%3D-%26fromPage%3DnsBrowserRoll%26amp%3BampTest%3D1&remove_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.geocities.com%2FPetsburgh%2FReserve%2F7416%2Fmi.html
Eastern Hognose snake looks familiar and the caption says they play dead
when provoked.
However, look at this link or the last photo!

I put your picture and this picture side by side on the monitor and the
marking on the head, over the eyes, and down the neck are VERY similiar.
No rattle?
