[SEL] 5HP Economy

Hi Bob,

I just had a problem with a 6HP International M that has an ignitor
ignition. Could not get a pop out of it. After doing some testing I found
the moving contact on the ignitor was not grounding. I ran a small wire
from a screw on the magneto to the end of the moving contact on the ignitor.
The engine started on the first compression stroke. Hard to believe the
shaft was not grounding but that was the problem. Just something to check
out.

Hello Tom

Yepper, checked the gas, had that problem before also (although my LA ran
great on very old "varnish" - LOL)

I've tried gas through the priming cup, ether etc. but nothing seems to make
her work. Haven't even gotten a backfire or anything.

oh well, guess I'll get back out there and try again, this engine hasn't
been run since 1977ish so it's been a project just getting the wasp nests
and cobwebs out of her.

Bob

Sweet Bob,

Have you checked for gas? My 5 hp Economy would not start one time and I
checked a lot of things before finally discovering that the gas had gone bad

Put in new gas and fired right up. You might try some ether thru the
priming
cup and see if it will fire. There are lots of parts people in GEM that sell
ignitor parts to rebuild if you need them. How about timing, valve setting,
compression, etc.? Just some things to ponder!
