Peter,
Thankyou for taking time to research this unusual well built engine. Please convey my thanks to Bert Juffer as well.

Here are the extracts that bert posted for me:

Bert Juffer: "6 Horsepower sideshaft built by the Steiermärkische
motoren- und Machinenfabrik Anton Lang & Anton Reichl ,
Hartberg,Steiermark,Austria. Motor#1793 , type LB , PS 6 (6hp) "

Bert Juffer: "It was purchased by a farmer 20 km's from the factory
where it stayed all it's life until a collector bought it. Somehow he
never started the restoration and he decided to put it on Ebay. Dries
put in a bit and bought it , it was a 2000km trip to collect it!!!
Condition was not bad at all , but there were some issue's. Both valve
cages were broken with some parts missing. I built new ones , and made
new valves for it. The gear on the sideshaft (bronze) was loose on the
shaft , bore shaft & keyways were damaged."

Bert Juffer: "Sleeved the gear, welded the shaft & keyway and machined
them to a perfect fit."

Bert Juffer: "Dries cleaned the magneto and it sparked quite well.
The original fuel tank was with the engine but badly cracked (poor
quality material) Helmar Wieschnevski from Switzerland made an exact
replica using the original as a pattern."

Dries is Berts older brother.
