Very neat Ron. I'd love to see that myself. The Louisville Water
Company still has its big pump house (at the time it was built it
contained the largest pumping system in the world) with the big steam
engines in them. They're something to see as well!

Subject: [SEL] Vernon Ca. power plant tour.

Hi all.
Yesterday my local engine club, WAPA, took a tour of the Vernon power
plant. Built in 1933, at the time of it's construction it was the
largest power plant with the largest Diesel engines in the US. The
plant
operated full time for five years. After that it was in stand by mode
for twenty years. Then moth balled until 1980, at which time they were
rebuilt and placed back into service as peaking/emergency units.
The six engines are Hamilton-M.A.N. double acting, two cycle, solid
injection Diesel engines. Bore 24" stroke 36", 6850 B.H.P. @167 rpm.
