[SEL] Bucket List Shows

George and Tom,

I attend Denton every year. As far as engine shows go, there are
others that are bigger, where people display more oddball stuff, etc. But,
the reason my family goes there every year is because it has something for
everyone. My daughter likes trains and there is a full size steam
locomotive there and there is a couple miles of rail circling the show.
They have steam shovels and steam cranes showing how work was done 100 years
ago. They have plowing with steam traction engines and the large gas
tractors. My wife loves music and there are country, gospel and other music
shows with big name acts. And, there is a LOT of good food on the grounds
(you can tell by looking at me that I kind of like that part of it too!). I
don't know that I'd travel to Europe to see an engine show just like it.
But, I don't mind driving 9 hours to attend Denton.

Tom,

I'm sure it's a fine show, but do people from other countries come to this
show as their primary reason for being in this country?
I've heard of the show, but really don't know anything about it.

Of course Bucket List shows don't have to be world class, just being a great
show is okay for people with smaller buckets ;-)

I know that Nuenen, Coolspring, Portland all are destination shows where
people travel great distances just to attend those shows.

I think the National Rally or whatever the Aussie's call their big show
would rate as a bucket list level show. I hope to visit it some year, just
don't know when yet.

The Rollag show is also a show that I think people should attend at least
once. Although it isn't primarily an engine show, it is so big and has so
much to see that you need to be there at least once.

George
