J.B.:

First, I enjoyed finally meeting you at Zolfo.  It's always nice to meet someone I've corresponded with for years.

You are "sort of" right about the heat of compression being a negative.  Remember, though, that when the gas is expanded on the return stroke, the heat is given back up.  Of course, not all of the heat/pressure is exchanged either way so the process isn't 100 percent efficient.
