[SEL] The McVickerish Engine

Jim:

The McVicker engine will always suck a charge after firing (and operating the exhaust valve).  After the exhaust is gone, the automatic inlet valve allows a fresh charge to be sucked in.

While the engine is "missing", the charge is just compressed and expanded 'til the next time the plug fires it at TDC or thereabouts.

If there is leakage past the rings during the "miss" period, a small vacuum will be present upon the next expansion and a little more fuel/air will be drawn in.
