Folks,  Mr. Steve and I were chatting about the elusive 
square head lag screws.

A bit of Googling disclosed this outfit "Blacksmith Bolt & 
Rivet Supply"

It looks like they are perfect for our needs.  Everything 
from 1/4" x 1-1/4" long to
1" x 12" long.  Pretty decent selection of diameters and 
lengths in plain or black
finish.

These folks have the smaller sizes up to 3/8" x 4" long 
black finish.
