I have used valspar as well as other spar varnishes. If your paint store
doesn't carry it, try a marine supply or boat store. They still make it, but
I'm not sure if it still has they old, tough, long lasting formula.

PS: The Smith Company in Richmond California has some epoxy coatings that
are tough as nails. They discontinued a deck coating that costs - for a two
gallon set - about $700.00. They didn't sell much.
