Bill here ( in Thailand ) responding to Mark. No, it was not an intense blue spark.  It was an ole yeller, but did jump a significant gap.  Yes, I am aware of spark behavior under pressure and to make visual observations, I built a "hyperbaric chamber" replete with glass window, mirror inside and pressure guage outside.  
No, I never put that EK on an engine, but I never forgot about it, either.
  Those EK's are fascinating magnetos, especially when they don't work -- when they should...
