Bill,  Any chance of posting a picture of the setup?  No, not really.  Do not yet have operable digital camera.
 Did you determine a good/bad criteria for the mags?  Like 4 inch pounds is too weak and 6 is good etc. Ed Herreid

Yes, that is exactly what I did.  
    Those EK's are fascinating instruments.  I had one EK, the armature of which almost fell off the poles when inverted.  There was just a whisper of magnetism.  No spark?  No, not so.  A good spark.  Why?  Don't know.   Does anyone?
