Jerry:

Here is one that I have seen used and it works as well as the "store bought" units.
---------------------------------------------------
To test the cracking pressure of Diesel injectors without having to either pay to have an injection service shop do it or buy a "store bought" tester, you can do it the Redneck Way.

Get a lever type grease gun (one of the big two-handed ones). Mount it so the "can" faces up. Remove the cartridge cap, cartridge piston and spring. THOROUGHLY clean the gun of grease and dirt. If I've described it right so far, you have the open end of the cartridge cylinder facing up.

Remove the hose and zerk fitting. Add a street elbow and a close nipple. To this connect one end of a tee fitting and to the other end connect the adapter pipe to the injector you want to test.

Into the center of the tee fitting, screw an appropriate hydraulic pressure gauge.

To test an injector,
- Loosely couple it to the adapter and fill the cartridge cylinder with good, -clean- Diesel fuel.
- Pump the handle of the gun until the air is out of the line.
- Tighten the adapter fitting to the injector under test.
- Slowly pump the handle, noting the pressure when the injector cracks.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's it, Jerry. I know you have the real thing but a lot of folks have to rely on a shop to do this simple test.

Take care - Elden
